1. These regulations may be called the Food Safety and Standards (Safe food and balanced diets for children in school) Amendment Regulations, 2026.
2. In the Food Safety and Standards (Safe food and balanced diets for children in school) Regulations, 2020, (herein after referred as said regulation), -
(1) After regulation 6 relating to ‘Monitoring and surveillance’, the following regulation shall be inserted, namely:-
“7. For the purpose of these regulations, the food products ‘high in added fat or added sugar or sodium’ shall be as per the Dietary Guidelines for Indians-2024, ICMR, as given below:
High Fat: Food containing more than 4.2g/100g of added fat in solid or more than 1.5g /100 ml in liquid form is considered 'high'
High Sugar: Food containing more than 3g/100g of added sugar in solid or more than 2 g/100 ml in liquid form is considered 'high'.
High Salt: Food containing more than 0.625g/100g of salt in solid or more than 0.175 g/100 ml in liquid form is considered high.
